As we have pointed out in the high trends for 2018, wood is one of the highlights for the home decor and one cannot miss it, rearranging any room from bedroom to kitchen and dining room. Before buying furniture and knowing how to take care of this kind, we recommend to discover more on the material (type of wood) it is made of, and get to know more about the kinds of finishes. So, here we go!
The popular decorative technique is undoubtedly inlaying. It is commonly used to create a furniture piece with a flush and flat surface. Inlaying means basically inserting contrasting materials into depressions in a major furniture piece. Usually materials used for contrast are another woods or metal, ivory. Often observed in accent tables and jewelry boxes.
A protective and sleek-style finish for woods is lacquer. Due to the layers applied it may have many sheen levels from matte-finished to high-gloss. It’s applied in many thin coats.
Whitewashing creates a white effect on wood. The look is achieved by applying bleach or white paint to the wood. Through this kind of technique, the furniture is given a rustic, weathered appearance.
And, by the way, as to the painting, wood can be painted any color. It gives the personal look and is often used for creating country, cottage or coastal-style furniture.
Without doubt, adding a piece of wood furniture to the home ambience will completely change its look and feel. Moreover, it is undeniably a staple material in furniture manufacturing, despite the industrial revolutions in history. Due to its extremely resilient features, it still requires very little maintenance, and is valued for the natural look.
